The shirt order was the best yet. We had the 50 minimum within four hours of the initial email. End result is 370 shirts/tank tops/sweat shirt orders have been taken. Since I will not be getting the shirts out until after the reunion I have decided to hold off on having them made until I get back from the reunion. This will give those who go to the reunion not on the net a chance to order. Maybe we can break 400.
I have decided to cut down on the net version of the Patrol Report and put out my Recon Rendezvous more often. My thinking is there is too much information in each net newsletter and it's outdated by the time the newsletter comes out. Hopefully I can maintain enough information to make it possible. As always, if anyone has anything you want to see in the newsletter or Rendezvous please send it my way.

is more than a place where Reconners can hook up with other Reconners. It is
a place for flicks, reading about what happened between way back when and now,
and most importantly, somewhat of a history of 1st Recon. None of the aims are
possible unless men contribute something pertaining to their time. By contributing
we can build a partial history of the Bn. in flicks and the written word. Personal
contributions have been good but could be a whole lot better.
Contributions are needed from all eras. Now will be
history tomorrow. Memories fade by the day but it's never too late to contribute
what you do remember. Memories of those of you serving today will start to fade
tomorrow. Before you know it 30 years will have come and gone then something
will cause you to stop and take a look back. You will wonder what happened to
so and so, what was the name of that dude in the flick you just looked at, and
how in hell can you contact someone whose nickname is all you can remember.
Hard to find someone known only as Fuman, Wildman, Okie, Festus or any of the
others known only by what was hung on them.
All those who served can testify to the above. You can't
count on patrol or daily reports that have a way of getting misplaced and can
even be wrong. The only way to preserve history is to write about it as it happens.
By writing about your personal history you are writing about the history of
the Bn. You are the legacy of the ones who came before you. It's up to you and
those who follow you to perpetuate the Bn.'s history to those who will be your
legacy. The Marine Corps puts heavy emphasis on tradition. Tradition is but
another name for history. We can read about something in every Marine Corps'
era but we can not do the same with 1st Recon. 1st Recon's tradition is spotty
mainly during combat eras but what of those times in-between? It has been my
experience that those who did not serve in combat are reluctant to contribute.
For whatever reasons they hold back when their history/tradition is just as
important as those who did their time in combat. I had a ball during my time
with 1st Recon but would swap those short 9 months for some of the lengthy time
periods and training some of you had.
My rant will always be, find those Reconners you served
with before it's too late, write about your time before most of the memories
fade, and perpetuate the history/tradition of your time by contributing to the
site. For those who have sent in stories, flicks, videos, audios, and other
things you have allowed me to upload to the site I say THANK YOU.
By contributions I mean flicks, stories, audios, videos, and anything else concerning 1st Recon.
